  • Let Her Breathe

    May her spirit rest
    in the arms of family
    Let her sleep
    Let her be
    Save eternity

Not our will but thine Lord
    You never give us more
    But struggle is a whore
    If not the glory Yours

    It seems a waste
    This time spent hastily
    Waiting, never knowing
The days that we have left to taste

    Why stay in between
When we know what's at the end
    But who is man, Lord
    Let her breathe again

  • Working Title

    What do I want.

    What do you want.

    What do I want.

    What do You want.

    The choice is yours

    The choice is mine

    This choice we're told,

    not obliged to decline

    Life is precious

    Life is a key

    To something greater

    Greater than we

When did this gift become a curse

When did our lives become about us

I don't like to see in black and white

You have you're opinion and I'll have mine

    Please don't detach

    Don't run away

    Just give a damn

    And think of the day

When you're asked where you stood

    And what you believed

And realize then all that mattered was me

    Yoke

(It's not a song, so I have no control over how you speak it. But still, just listen.)

    Yoke

    6.21.10

    This yoke

It's as hot as the words that sear

And say nothing for a year

    So destroy only but yourself

    Living silent inside this hell

Write a verse of some inside jokes

Blind the others to your yoke

Hear Jesus say His is lighter...

    But Satan is a fighter

Wait, the battle has just begun

    Still the same, already won

End in sight, if only have faith

    Just keep walking, stumbling straight

    The conversations you never had

To keep running from the past

Closing your eyes to see the world

Choosing to cry for those you've hurt

Hiding has been the yoke you bear

And asking again if He still cares

    Docile still, you cannot wait

    The Spirit's power to awake

That someday soon He'll come and take

    This yoke

    words

I found a piece of paper the other day as I was cleaning out my "junk" drawer, and typed out on it was something I had written back in 2006 while studying abroad in New Zealand:

    Words are a weapon
They give life or breed death
    Words are a seed
    What is it we're planting?
    Words are a mirror
    Reflecting our souls
    Words can be heard
Who is speaking, and are we listening?
    Words have meaning
    How are they defined?

    What is freedom of speech
When words are used to promote hate?
Sure, we can say whatever the hell we want,
But are we really aware of the shit that comes out of our mouths?

Maybe we are quick to hold our tongues,
But our eyes speak more words than we could ever say

If we listened to ourselves think
Would we be so quick to speak?
Out of our mouths the heart speaks
    What is it saying?

Words can rhyme to make then sound pretty,
But it's the meaning of the words we seem to be missing
